Volunteering

Join our Volunteer Team

Volunteers are the heart and soul of the Winter Gardens. We simply could not operate without them.

We are always looking for new volunteers who have the skills and enthusiasm to help us look after this special place.

Whatever your background and experience, there is a role for you at Morecambe Winter Gardens.

Tasks you could get involved with include:

Weekends & Events Volunteers

We open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from Easter to Autumn. Our volunteers welcome visitors, help in the cafe, manage stalls and fundraise for the building.

Ad Hoc Events Volunteers

If you’re unable to help at weekends, but can offer support for busy events on an ad hoc basis, we’d still love to hear from you. You could help as a steward or hospitality volunteer.

Maintenance Volunteers

Our maintenance team work in the building every Tuesday and Wednesday. We need handy and skilled people to do all kinds of jobs, such as fixing doors, mending lights, painting and/or clearing materials.

How to Apply

Everyone who applies to joins us will be invited to a short Induction Session to find out what volunteering is all about and how you could best help us.

Volunteer Case Studies

Peter, Tour Guide

Hello, my name is Peter Wade.

I’ve been volunteering at the Winter Gardens for around 23 years; a long time! I first came to the theatre when I was 8 years old, I’ve still got the programme. I have the same name as one of the performers, so I used to collect autographs from the stars.

After the theatre had been closed for a number of years, when it reopened, access was very limited compared to now. But there was a huge crowd of people and I thought, this is worth getting involved with, so I became a volunteer.

I’m one of the guides for the building, delivering theatre tours every Sunday. For me, the Winter Gardens is a gift of history and we should be careful to preserve our history. Buildings like this have got to be kept.

Trish, Book Stall Vounteer

Hi I’m Trisha.

I started dancing when I was 4 years old and was soon performing on stage at the Winter Gardens. Being on stage were some of the best years of my life and I performed here so many times, in shows including Guys & Dolls and Oklahoma. I have so many happy memories in this building.

I lived abroad for a while then as soon as I came back to live in Morecambe, I heard about volunteering at the Winter Gardens and I knew I had to get involved.

I manage the book stall every weekend and I just love it. I get to chat to so many interesting people and meet so many lovely children too. It’s just brilliant!
