Friday 22nd July 2022

Show starts 19:30 to 22:00

Brandishing a shiny brand new CD ‘Welcome To The Second Half’, that magnificent, craggy ensemblage of heavenly singing male bodies, The Spooky Men’s Chorale return to these shores this summer. How could they live up to their own reputation, gained through seven dazzling sell out tours of the UK?  If it’s possible, they are even better: ever more comfortable with their whimsical humour and musical breadth – an audience-winning repertoire of Georgian songs, pindrop-beautiful ballads, highly inappropriate covers, and immaculate man anthems.

The globe-trotting Australian-born manchoir, in middle age, are discovering new rooms in the man cave. As well as finding the funny side of their own impending doom, they celebrate the joys of doing absolutely nothing, discover their own outrage at the baggage carousel, and evoke the majesty of 80,000 slaves building the great pyramid.

Their last UK tour saw a large number of sell-out concerts at major venues and a whole raft of ecstatic festival audience reactions. You must see them. Really, you must.

“Inspired – and a triumph of choreography! Catch them on the road – a fantastic night out is guaranteed!” Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio 2

“High camp, epic folly – probably the best programming choice of the entire summer festival circuit’– The Irish Times

“Highly theatrical, they veer from weird to touching and back again. Grown up entertainment in the best, most infantile way. Don’t miss an opportunity to see them” – Daily Telegraph

Sunday 24th July 2022

Show starts 19:00 to 21:15

YSFF is back at Morecambe’s beautiful Winter Gardens theatre with another classic silent film – Hitchcock’s thriller The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog – with live music.

The Film

A woman screams. The serial killer bringing terror to the streets of London has struck once more – another blonde woman. He always kills young blonde women.

The new lodger at Mrs Bunting’s is secretive and odd – and he matches the description of the killer. But could such a beautiful young man really be a killer?

The 125th anniversary season at Morecambe Winter Gardens continues with Hitchcock’s first thriller – a film with a special connection to Morecambe through its star, the matinee idol Ivor Novello.

This special event will begin with an introduction by Professor Vanessa Toulmin, Chair of the Morecambe Winter Gardens Preservation Trust, who will tell the surprising story of the relationship between Ivor Novello and Morecambe.

The Music

The Hitchcockian atmosphere will be enhanced with a specially-created live musical accompaniment performed by Liz Hanks (cello), Ben McCabe (percussion) and Jonny Best (piano).
